Dear Avery,

AVERY! YOU’RE ALIVE! Congratulations, I hope you have figured your life out. “All dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them” (Walt). In a perfect world, I bet you are rocking out wisely on the weekends and studying hard during the week. Knowing you, very well, you have probably made some lifelong friends, maybe even a hubby. Most of all, I wish upon a shooting star that you are having a great adulthood, living your life to the fullest as I expected you will.

Currently, you are not wanting to attend college, instead, you want to work on the Disney Cruise Line. Before this dream came along you wanted to go to IUPUI (Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis) for your Bachelor in Health Science and eventually get your Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy. I’m reminding you of this to show you in the future how much this has changed, if it has changed. Many teachers have their students write letters to their future self only to get lost in the busyness of the year.

I imagine you right now in a dorm room or maybe a small apartment that just discovered a flash drive with this future self-letter, deciding to give it a read. I imagine you to have a good paying job that will help you swim in all that debt; it’s better than drowning. On New Year’s Eve, I picture you partying, safely, with some of your best friends in your little home counting down until year 20__. On Christmas, you most likely went home to your dad and sisters to celebrate the birth of Christ. I assume you have maintained a good relationship with your mom, despite her troubles.

Actually, I wish you would do that with everyone. If you don’t already have a resolution, here’s one: Choose love over the law. Choose loving others all equally, no matter what laws, rules, or morals they have broken. Treat everyone equally, and you will succeed in life. Don’t forget about yourself, either. Love yourself as you do others; you deserve it, too. You might not love yourself all the time or you might make mistakes that you think you don’t deserve it, but you do. Continue to grow with Christ and walk down the right path.

                                                                                                                     XOXO Avery
